Week 7- Funky Faces

This week we had a little fun with the GIMP editing program. We took photos of ourselves and messed with them :) Each of the following photos was taken by splicing facial features from one person and putting them onto another person. Then some of us cut and pasted the final creation into another setting... The results are pretty hilarious.

Week 6- Scanner Art

This week we put the cameras away and used a somewhat forgotten technology, scanners! First, we went over some basics about scanning and then had fun scanning some unconventional objects... We used: Scrabble tiles, stuffed animals, feathers, coins, pasta, magazine cutouts, faces, and MORE! The following pictures are our favorites.

Week 5- Macros

This week we focused on Macro Photography! We spent some time reviewing the basics of taking macro (close up) photos with our cameras and then we went out into the school. We took LOTS of pictures and when we came back to the lab, we looked through them and picked our favorite(s). Then we used GIMP and Picnik to make funky macro collages.

Week 4- Panoramas

This week we worked on panorama photos. Everyone took a camera and a tripod and went out to find a good scene that they wanted to capture. Then we used the tripod to shoot at least 6 images while panning across the scene. When we returned to the lab, we used GIMP to piece the images into one larger panoramic picture. Some blending and clever cropping helped make the images come together more smoothly... Here they are!

Week 3- Digital Photo Basics

This week we spent some time going over the 9 "Lessons" of Digital Photography:
  1. Experiment
  2. Check your backgrounds
  3. Hold your camera steady and straight
  4. Get in close
  5. Take lots of photos
  6. Get the balance right between people, places, and things
  7. Find a point of interest
  8. Use your focal lock
  9. Use different modes for different situations
After this we used those "Lessons" and did a photo scavenger hunt around the school. Once those pictures were put on the computer, we took our 3-4 favorites and used an online program called Picnik to make collages. As you can see, we also took advantage of the program's editing and effects options! Here are a few of the collages.

Week 2- Picture in a Picture...

This was our second week together! After we took some time sharing last week's pictures, we got right to our project. We looked at a book called Flotsam, in which a boy finds a underwater camera. When he develops the film he finds amazing pictures of an underwater world AND a picture of a girl, holding a picture of a girl, holding a picture of a boy, and so on... He even gets his microscope out to see how far back the pictures go. So, we took that idea and made our own digital photo version of this, with a little help from digital editing techniques. The following are our pictures!

Week 1- Exploration

This was our first week in digital photography! We took time to learn about the cameras by taking lots of pictures and testing the settings. Then we took time to learn the photo editing program, Gimp. We each took a photo of ourselves and created a portrait piece. Here they are!
